Conflict In The Classroom

Why Teachers and Students Engage in Behavioral Battles

(and how to avoid them...the battles, not the students)

They're so darn obstinate!  And not just them... It's the students too.

Yep, it takes two to tangle.  It's very difficult for one person to engage in an argument.  It takes two people who refuse to try to see the situation from the viewpoint of the other.  Of course, we can't expect students to take the high road before us, so it's up to us to lead the way.  We are teachers...of academics AND behavior and values.

How do we get caught up in these arguments and verbal battles with kids?  How can we escape them, or better yet, avoid them altogether.  The following powerpoint slide show presentation gives us an understanding of the classroom conflict phenomenon, and provides ways for both to leave the situation with dignity intact and feeling good about the situation (and the other person).
